Purple Plains was an idea hiding out in the back of our minds for years. We always said “imagine if we opened a dispensary one day,” but we never truly thought it would become real.

As New York State began to write their cannabis laws in 2021, we decided it was now or never. It was a scary decision to make, as a licensing process didn’t even exist yet and we had no clue where to start, but somehow we figured it out along the way.

After applying, we waited for 9 months in the dark before we finally got our provisional approval. We were beyond excited and got right into leasing our location and building out our store (a state requirement). Little did we know it would be 11 more months and several unforeseen obstacles before the state finally allowed us to open.

There were many times that it seemed like it was never going to come. But we never lost faith, and ultimately, we made it.

On April 17th, 2024, we opened our doors — and every day since, we’ve poured our hearts into creating the best possible experience for our customers.
